Music has always been one of our activities at Hokisa, especially during holidays, as it improves the moods of the children, promotes a culture of team work and excercises the memory. Monks, one of our childcare workers, recorded the younger children (ages 2 - 7 years) in his bedroom studio. This is one of their favorite songs - “Ndiyamthand” uThuthula” (I love Thuthula))

Lyrical Content:
Ndiyamthand”uThuthula (I love Thuthula)
Khelence (‘Cling’ like the sound of a bell)
Nob”imali ayikho (Even if there is no money)
Khelence
Ndizomlobola ngantoni? (How am I going to pay Lobola)
Khelence, khence, khelekence, khence (Repeat the whole verse)

Monks says, “When I recorded the song with them it was like a dream come true. My aim is for everybody to hear these angels singing as if they have no problems in life. This makes one understands the power of music and its healing ability - music has helped me to overcome difficulties in my own life.
When you watch the children singing many questions arise from within…
Can they be happy like they were when they were singing, for as long as they live?
When that songs end, we all go back to face reality.
We cry, we sing, we laugh we sing - that’s the power of music.
Can we as child carers make these children’s life like a song and help them sing it along the way?
