We headed off to Beaverlac for a camping trip to enjoy the start of the summer holidays and celebrate the end of another good school year. The kids were excited to return to our familiar and favourite camping spot, about 3 hours from Cape Town in the Olifants River Mountains in the Cederberg.

Our days were spent unwinding amidst beautiful specimens of fynbos, naturally occurring waterfalls and enchanting pools that appear as if by magic and prove perfect playgrounds for the children who caught little fish, swam in the rockpools and waterfalls and explored and enjoyed the outdoors and the nature.

In the evenings we braai’d, sat under the stars and enjoyed the peace and the sounds of frogs – there are two rivers that run through the reserve – nocturnal birds and the rustling of other night animals.

We had one day of rain and cold winter weather which was very unusual for this time of year but we made the most of it, read stories, sang songs, roasted marshmellows and went for a long drive and finally a beautiful walk when the sun came out again.

As always we ALL enjoyed special ‘family’ time and came home with wonderful stories and memories…
